Kid Friendly Dentist

Many people are afraid of visiting the dentist for dental treatment because of two main reasons: they had a bad experience since young or were not exposed to it since young.

Therefore, an excellent way to help your child develop good dental care habits for their oral health is to get them positively exposed to a dentist as early as their first tooth erupts.

Starting from a young age, their curiosity will allow them to learn more about oral health care, and this will subconsciously incorporate regular brushing and flossing of teeth into their daily routine.

Many parents are not aware of their child’s baby teeth’ importance since they will drop off eventually.

However, baby tooth serve essential functions such as aiding in speech development at a young age, developing jawbones and facial muscles, maintaining space for the permanent teeth, and guiding them into the correct position.

These primary tooth usually start dropping from the age of 6. This means that the permanent teeth are growing out and are pushing the milk teeth out.

Decay in the baby’s tooth – if not addressed right away – may lead to early tooth loss, resulting in a loss of space due to drifting of adjacent teeth, and possibly future crooked permanent teeth.

OUR EXPERIENCED TEAM AIM TO HAVE EVERY CHILD LEAVING SMILING AND EXCITED ABOUT THEIR DENTAL VISIT

Handling your child at SMILE SCULPTORS

You may be worried that kids are hard to handle on the dental treatment chair during dental care, but not to worry, there are ways to manage their behaviour when in the hands of children friendly professionals.

  1. Tell-Show-Do: Children are afraid of things that they do not know. Thus, our pediatric dentist will always explain to them verbally, followed by showing them on a tooth model of what will be taking place before actually carrying it out.
  2. Enhancing control: By giving the child a sense of control, they will be more acceptable towards trying something new. This can be done by teaching them a stop signal, such as raising their arm to signal the dentist to stop. This will be rehearsed, and the dentist will act accordingly to gain the trust of the child.
  3. Positive reinforcement: Whatever the child finds enjoyable or satisfying can act as positive reinforcement – for example, a sticker, a badge, or even just a verbal praise to reward them for good performance.
  4. Distraction: If the child is too afraid, distractions to shift their attention away from the treatment procedure with cartoon shows, music, or even just chatting with them is useful.

Variety of dental treatments we provide to prevent tooth decay in children, or to save or repair teeth when necessary.

By around age 7, most malocclusions have become evident. Interceptive orthodontic treatment around this time can help direct proper tooth positioning and/or jaw growth, eliminating or simplifying the need for later treatment. There are many orthodontic problems that can be detected early and are examples of why a trained professional should evaluate your child during his/her growth and development.

We encourage you to bring your child to our dental office every six months for a regular dental exam and cleaning. During this visit, our friendly dentist and dental team will gently clean your child’s teeth and check for signs of dental problems, such as tooth decay. Each member of our dental team is caring and gentle, and we are certain to put your child at ease. We understand that it is important to build a positive, trusting relationship between your child and the dentist at a young age, and we are dedicated to ensuring that your child feels comfortable and safe at our office. If you have any questions about your child’s dental health or oral development, we welcome you to ask us during the visit or by calling our dental office.
